Restoring Apple Watch backup to new iPhone with different Apple ID

I currently do not own an iPhone but I do own an Apple Watch. I have had my Apple Watch paired to a friend's iPhone, waiting for the new iPhone to come out so I can use my Apple Watch with the new phone. During this time, I have earned activity awards which I would like to keep when I pair my Apple Watch to my new phone. I do not want to restore apps or other data from my friend's phone but just the awards. I have a different Apple ID to my friend. Is this possible?

Did your friend set up the Watch as themselves or for a family member (i.e. with a separate Apple ID)? Your Apple Watch data is backed up to the iPhone that it's paired with. But, if you've set up an Apple Watch for a family member who doesn't have an iPhone (i.e. with a separate Apple ID), the watch's data is backed up to iCloud directly. Learn more about backups for an Apple Watch that you set up for a family member.

If it's set up for a separate Apple ID you should be able to set up your Watch just fine with your new iPhone. Let us know if you're still facing issues.

Thanks for the reply. The watch is set up for themselves so the Watch's data is backed up to my friend's phone. I'm wondering if I can restore this backup to a new phone with a different Apple ID. Setting up for a family member is also not possible for me since my watch is not cellular. Please let me know if you come up with a solution.
