Why must I tap iPhone screen before entering the code

Hi, I searched the net but didn't find anything about this:

When I turn on my iPhone SE2 I must remember to tap the screen before entering the unlock code. When I bought the iPhone it wasn't like this: it was introduced later with some iOS upgrade (I think iOS 14, but I'm not sure).

Very often I forget and go straight with the code (as I have done for years and many iPhones)... This way the first digit is not registered and the following ones are wrong (offset by one).

When I realize the error, I have to hit "Undo" for every digit I've typed and start over.

This is more annoying than it sounds, especially because it's new and I don't see the need of it.

Any idea on how to disable this?

Thanks

iPhone SE, iOS 16

I believe “turn on my iPhone” means your iPhone has been powered off, and this operation is accomplished by pressing and holding the side button until the Apple logo appears.

But clearly you mean something else, as tapping is not involved in this process. Once the Apple logo disappears, you are asked for your passcode.

It's exactly what I mean: it happens only when I first turn on the iPhone in the morning and code is requested (Touch ID doesn't work in this stage).

When I want to enter the passcode, the first touch doesn't register and looks like it's used to "wake up" the screen.

For the rest of the day, this doesn't happen anymore and I can type the code straight on.

Thanks, but once the iPhone has been unlocked the first time, the issue doesn't happen anymore. I can lock the screen again and when I want to unlock it with the passcode, I can type the first digit straight on, no matter how long the delay is.

It ONLY happens when the phone starts after a shut down. I Press the On/Off side button, wait for the numbers keyboard to appear, then touch the screen, then type the code :D

And I'm saying it again: this is my 4th iPhone and I never had this issue before iOS 14

Hi, there is no way to disable it. It is a feature they developed to prevent accidental touch on the code pad. Generally after 3 incorrect codes your iPhone can be wiped. This is apples way of ensuring accidental touch when it is in your pocket or bag that it accidentally wipes your phone.

So, for what I can see, the choice of disabling "Tap to wake" feature is only available in iPhones with Face ID. I don't see it in the Accessibility > Touch section of my SE and I suppose it's automatically enabled at start up.

I can't understand the logic of it: when I turn the iPhone on, I have it in my hand and I'm ready to carefully type the passcode while later, when it's in my pocket and wrong stuff can really happen... the feature is not there anymore.

It makes no sense, but anyway thanks for your help.
