Why do iPads slow and how to fix?

my previous iPad slowed down to the point of frustration and uselessness so I had to replace it, and now my current one is going the same way. They seemed designed to do this and i not only can’t afford a new one I hate the environmental waste.

my current ipad is a mini 4 it has 50GB of available space from its original 125GB and is running 15.7.8 - the most recent update apple have offered, even though my iPhone, which is second hand, runs on a higher one.

things like emails take for ever to download (i often check them on my iPhone because it is taking so long and the wifi is therefore not the problem) it is slow to open web pages on chrome or safari and has developed annoying habits like opening a series of mini windows when I open my emails or browser which I have to click away from (screen shot example)

i feel so frustrated and annoyed with it that I have considered buying a refurbished one, but they are based on models that don’t seem younger than mine so why would they be different?

why does this happen, this inbuilt obsolescence? And is there anyway to cure it? I have done several reboots. Would a total reset make any difference? Any advice please? Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. I didn’t buy it 8 years ago. I bought it new approx 4 years ago. But even so the object itself isn’t broken, surely it’s the software that changes rather than the ‘machine’? And the software is as up to date as Apple allows. Physically it functions, what is it that doesn’t work and for the sake of the planet shouldn’t these machines be used for as long as physically possible?

I have looked at battery usage as you suggest (see below) how does this help? What can I do with this information? Thank you.My battery is working very well and holds its charge well.

Can you explain what difference that makes to the way it downloads emails etc? I stopped using safari because it was taking so long to open pages it was driving me mad, plus it doesn’t store my passwords for sites like the library etc. bearing in mind I use chrome, emails and podcast predominantly it doesn’t seem disproportionate that chrome is using one fifth of my battery power. That seems totally logical as this is the app I use the most.

i still don’t understand why the amount of battery an app uses reflects why my iPad is performing so badly. After all I used chrome when I first bought it too and it worked fine then.

i also use chrome on my phone and it behaves itself despite being second hand two years ago.

is there anything you can suggest I do which may actually address the problem,or is your position ‘tough, buy a new ipad’?.
