Magic Keyboard and Trackpad are lagging

I have a new MacBook Air M2 running macOS Ventura 13.5. I want to use the laptop with the clamshell closed, connected to a docking station & monitor, with a Magic Keyboard (version 1) and a Magic Trackpad (version 2). However, throughout the day both the keyboard and (to a much lesser extent) the trackpad act glitchy. The keyboard will sometimes lag a key entry and other times double type it. Or, the trackpad will lag a tap and other times register it twice. I suspect it is only a lagging problem and the double typing/tapping is coming from me when I overcorrect. Both the keyboard and trackpad worked fine one week ago, when they were paired with an old Mac mini. Both devices have been unpaired with the Mac mini (which has been reset for sale).

I've tried rebooting and I've tried re-pairing both the keyboard and trackpad, but the problem persists. Maybe it is only in my mind, but sometimes I wonder if it is application dependent. For example, I just typed this entire post in Safari without incident, but halfway through switched to a Google doc in Chrome and experienced the keyboard lag.

Update: Let me be a bit more precise about the keyboard lag... what I see is that when I type a word, each character appears on the screen as per normal, immediately followed by the last few letters being deleted as though I had pressed the backspace key several times, immediately followed by the retyping of those deleted characters. At the moment, it appears to me that this problem is only occurring in certain apps, but I may be wrong about that.
