Opening a new tab in the Finder is slow

On Ventura 13.5.1 (and earlier), when I use the Command+T to open a tab in a Finder window (with 2 or 3 Tabs, not a large number of them), there is a noticeable delay with the beachball cursor. This is on an M1 MacBookAir with plenty of available RAM and SSD.

This has been happening for many months. I've tried deleting preferences, clearing caches and opening in Safe Mode and it's still often (but not always) slow when opening a new tab.

You might want to try removing Finder's plist file:

In Finder, press Command-Shift-G and paste this

~/Library/Preferences/

Delete: com.apple.finder.plist

Drag the file to the trash, then force-quit the Finder and then log out and back in.

Force Quit: Click Apple logo in upper left menu or key ‘option + command + esc’
