Restart your MBP while Studio Display Connected

Hey everyone, appreciate your help - I am using a Apple Studio Display connected to my Macbook Pro intel based 2020 model. I'm one of those odd guys that do not use the Macbook with the lid open - i only rely on the external monitor screen.

The issue is, after restarting my macbook pro, I have to always open up the lid before the monitor screen and enter password to start the machine, I want password screen should be coming to my Studio display once MacBook restarts. its annoying that every day i have to keep opening it up and closing it when MBP restarts.

any help please?

psadana,

You may try checking to see if the external display is set to be a mirror of the MacBook Pro's display or if it's set to be an extension of it. Then, try switching to mirrored display, if it isn't already to ensure what should be shown on the login screen is mirrored over.

This page can help with that if needed: Extend or mirror your Mac desktop across multiple displays - Apple Support

If that hasn't helped, try unplugging the display from power for a full minute, and then connect it directly to the Mac to help bypass the hub, just to rule out any current conflicts there.

Cheers.

Hey psadana,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Is this only happening when you restart your Mac, or does it also happen if your Mac goes to sleep? You should be able to tap a key on the external keyboard to wake your Mac and display.

From the description it appears you have an available macOS update. Take a moment to install the update to see if that helps with this: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

Keep us posted.

Take care!

Thanks for the answer. Sleep mode is fine and MBP wakes up when you preses the External Keyboard (Apple brand) or Touch Apple Mouse.

This problem is only when you restart the MBP. I have Venture 13.5.1 and I forgot to tell that Studio Display is connected with Caldigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub. But it was connected even i had Monterey OS and there was no problem like this before.
