13” 2011 MacBook Cursor not working and system locks-up.

Cursor cannot open files, apps, close windows or operate menus. Acts the same in Safe mode. Soon, computer locks up.

I have recovered back to an earlier state via time machine and have uninstalled and reinstalled to a new OS via recovery.

I assume it’s a hardware issue.

Thanks in advance!

Troubleshooting a Stalled Mac:

Boot in Safe Mode:

Ultimately, the macOS is becoming stalled. So, try logging in while in Safe Mode. In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once logged in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then restart your Mac, seeing if you can log in without any issue. Go hereHow to Use Safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support

"Regrettably, no improvement. The cursor acts the same way in Safe mode. The cursor moves abt freely but clicks don’t work to open, close or select. The only way to shutdown is the power button."

If a Mouse Wont Click:

Try The Following:

A. Restart the Mac:

What happens when you restart the Mac? Does that fix it?

B. Boot in Recovery Mode:

Hold Down [Commend + R] upon boot. See if you can then select items.

C. Reset SMC and NVRAM with Plug-in Keyboard:

  1. Shutdown: your iMac
  2. Unplug: All Items
  3. Plug In: External Keyboard
  4. Reset your SMC and your NVRAM:

Sometimes changes (i.e. updates) are made to the system and then settings (i.e. for the mouse) become manipulated, technically. So, reset both on your Mac. It might take up to three times to reset each, so be certain you have the time to reset them. Use

D. Single Out this Mouse:

Does this happen with other mouses that you have? If so, then it is an issue with the setting on your Mac. If not, it may be the mouse itself giving you all the issue. So, if you have a second Mouse to use, try that mouse as well.
