Samsung T7 Touch gets very hot with Macbook Pro M1

I'm using the Samsung T7 Touch with my M1 Macbook Pro, OS 12.6.6 and do heavy photo editing. The T7 gets very hot. It's even very warm when just idle. I see others online with the same situation. Does anyone know if this is normal, or dangerous? Is it wise to store valuable images on these? How stable can they be?

Thanks for anyone with any knowledge.

Hi Edward A.

How did your T7 Shield test go? Anything else you've learned since your post?

I have a MacBook Air M2 and just started using a new T7 (not touch, just basic Portable SSD T7). I've been using it for about an hour and a half, just transferring files to it from an older SSD to create a new backup on my T7, and it's super hot. After this final transfer is done in 10 minutes I'll let it rest, but it worried me a bit and started googling heat issues, and found this thread.

Any updates from your experience with it? Thanks so much!

The first thing I did is reach out to Samsung, but they never replied. There are others here with the same issue, and this topic can be found many other places online. Do the Samsung touch ssd's not react well with the M1 chip? I've stopped archiving anything to it and will use other external ssds. Is it just the Touch? I have other Samsung devices, like the T7 shield, but I haven't put them to heavy use yet. I'll try now and report back.
