Not receiving 2FA codes (SMS/Text) on my iPad.
After receiving a new iPad, I was frustrated that I wasn’t receiving text-message 2FA codes on it when I went to sign into shops / sites etc.
I searched high and low online and could find a lot of people having the same experience, but no resolution. Today I contacted Apple Support and support agent, Gil sorted the issue for me in a heartbeat.
I didn’t realise that there is a setting on your phone that you need to enable. (I’m not sure how new this specific setting). I wanted to share this here for anyone else who comes looking for the solution to the same issue.
Assuming the following is true:
- You have Messages enabled in iCloud
- You are signed into the same Apple ID for Messages on both your iPhone and your iPad (or MacBook/iMac etc)
- You have the same send/receiving addresses set on both devices
- You are still not having 2FA codes (or other text messages from non-Apple devices) show up on your iPad (or MacBook/iMac etc)
Then, on your iPhone:
- Open Settings
- Navigate to Messages
- Scroll down the options until you see “Text Message Forwarding”
- Go into this setting and switch the toggle to ON next to the device(s) you want to receive SMS/Text based messaged on (such as your iPad).
This should resolve the issue for you. 🤞
