I have certain text threads that I want to keep the history forever. That’s only about 2% of the texts on my phone. Is there any way to lock those particular threads from deletion, while activating the automatic delete function for the rest?
No, that is not an option.
I suggest that you archive the texts in some other way. I use iMazing to archive my texts to a pdf or text on my computer. It's not free but is well worth the price to me.
You can also take screenshots of the texts and save them to photos or email them to yourself.
