Can I put my MacBook to sleep before an automatic update?
My MacBook Pro recently detected a software update and will automatically update overnight. I am unsure whether it is safe for me to put the system to sleep before the update.

We have a great support article that might help with this. Please take a look at it here: What is Power Nap on Mac? - Apple Support. Enabling Power Nap will allow your macOS to update without the Mac being fully "awake."
