installing lynx browser on macOS montery version 12.6.8

I am interested in installing the lynx browser on my MacBook for my private use. Is lynx safe to install? What is the best way to install lynx?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.6

Lynx is only available in source code for macOS and you will have to address its many dependencies as a skilled developer when you compile it with Apple's Xcode or Command Line Tools for Xcode. This will be non-trivial.

You can install Lynx using a third-party package manager and it will need to install all of Lynx's dependencies before Lynx can be installed. The package manager will expect that you already have Apple's Command Line Tools for Xcode installed. Here is the dependency tree shown by the homebrew package manager for Lynx. None of this is in macOS by default.

Any update to Lynx may involve additional dependencies and this can get out of control over time.

An alternative with minimal dependencies is w3m:

but will still need a third-party package manager installation and Apple's Command Line tools installed.

In the Terminal:

w3m -v https://foxnews.com

I am trying to learn perl using a very well written guidebook. One of the examples includes a 'pipe' to the web via the 'lynx' web browser. I don't have lynx installed on my MacBook, and the 'lynx' download (as well documented as it is) does not provide a very clear step-by-step process for someone at my less than expert level to follow. Some of the 'lynx' documentation seems a bit ominous, so I'm a little hesitant to just charge ahead and try to install it by myself.
