iMac turned on after repairing, but didn’t start again after that.

My iMac (late 2014, 27 inch) stopped working so, I opened it up and figured out that the problem was in the power supply. I replaced the power supply and started it again, 3 LEDs were on (first 3 from bottom, I hadn’t connected the display) the iMac chime played but then I was unable to turn it off via the power button, so I pulled the plug. Then I tried to start it back up again but only the bottom most LED was on and the power button wasn’t doing anything. What could be the problem.

Several possibilities.

Power button not connected.

Power button not functioning.

Cable from power supply to motherboard not connected or bad.

Power supply failed.

Motherboard failed.

My money is on the last one. Motherboard may have been fried when you powered it up with the replacement power supply.

I hope not, this computer meant everything to me. Can a failed mother be replaced cheaply? Also how to check if the motherboard has failed?

The main logic board is comparable in cost to the display, in short it's pretty expensive. Considering the computer is 10 years old, have you considered replacing it?

What are the chances of logic board failure, the 1st LED indicates that the power supply is working correctly.

The 1st LED indicates the logic board is receiving a trickle of power, which is normal in the standby state. it does not mean that the power supply doesn’t have a problem.

My money is still on a logic board failure.

Honestly, no matter which one it is, it’s probably not worth fixing.
