Apple ID side right button use to confirm a purchase or Apple ID usage for signing in

As noted in a 2019 question posted, obviously by someone else; the right side button used to be something that people could use to authorize a purchase with when intending to buy for example a video game pack. Now I have to sign in with my Apple ID password to do that instead . Wth? Please advise. The responses listed to from 2019 obviously do not work with how my phone is functioning. There is not an App Store/ iTunes button listed under the settings area or under my name in the settings area.

Hi chrystal1479,

We understand you're having trouble making purchases without having to always enter your password and we can help.

This behavior hasn't changed from what you've mentioned. It sounds like you might need to configure Face ID to confirm purchases. Double-click the side button for purchases should work after that.

Follow the steps here:

Use Face ID in the iTunes Store, App Store, and Book Store in Apple Books

To use Face ID to purchase content from the iTunes Store, App Store, and Book Store, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and make sure that iTunes & App Store is turned on. Then follow these steps:

1. Open the iTunes Store, App Store, or Book Store, then tap something that you want to buy.
2. When asked to pay, double-click the side button, then glance at your iPhone or iPad. If you're wearing a face mask that covers your mouth and nose but Face ID with a mask isn't set up, tap Pay with Passcode and enter your passcode instead.
3. Wait for Done and a checkmark to display.

You might be asked to enter your Apple ID password for the first purchase you make in the iTunes Store, App Store, or Book Store.

Use Face ID on your iPhone or iPad Pro
