Update both macOS and Office to current. macOS 13.5.1 is current. See if that works better.

If Office continues to be problematic here, you will want to check with and seek assistance in the Microsoft Q&A forums. Those are where most of the folks that know this app tend to be.

if Office is not working for your needs, consider migrating to and use other tools. Apple iWork Pages is free, and can read and write most Word documents. There are other fine choices including LibreOffice, and various of those choices can read and write Office documents.
