Macbook Air A1466 Early 2014 EMC 2632 - SSD Upgrade 512GB does not work

Hi Expert,

Iḿ totally lost. I want to upgrade my old Macbook Air. For that I want to replace the original 128GB SSD with a bigger one. I decided to take a 512 GB SSD from Cloudeck - which is compatible with my model. (the manufacturer said)

After replacing the SSD, my Mac does not find the new SSD. Recovery mode say to me that there were no SSD found. When I take a boot stick and boot ubuntu - the SSD is found and I can read an write on the SSD. When I boot Mavericks from my boot stick, no SSD is found. So, Linux shows to me that the SSD work correctly. But I am not able to install Mavericks on this new SSD.

Any ideas what I can do?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Bernd....

I solved the problem. The reason or not identifying the SSD was that some firmware updates were missing. The Problem. I was not able to Update to a newer MacOS Version which this firmware updates includes. I found a patch which allows me to update to Big Sur. After booting Big Sur from a USB-Stick, my internal new SSD was found. Now everything work fine.

At first I inserted the brand new SSD without any formatting. After I found out that the Macbook did not find the SSD I formated the SSD with GUID under Linux. After doing this the SSD was still not found by the Macbook.

After some researching I found a way to boot from a USB-Stick High Sierra. The installations programm found the SSD and I was able to install High Sierra on the new SSD. But, after finishing the installtion and booting the new SSD it is still not found.

I have really no idea what has happend.
