Mac Studio problems with external DVD burner

I have some .iso files I want to burn to DVD.

  1. Usually, when I put a blank DVD into the drive, nothing shows in the Finder nor in Disk Utility.
  2. When I click on the eject button in my Toolbar, or press the eject button on my keyboard, nothing happens. I have to eject by pressing the button on the external DVD drive itself.
  3. If I am able to get something to show in Finder, I get message that it can't be opened because the original item can't be found.

What am I doing wrong?

Do you have this checkbox checked in the finder's General settings pane?

What is the make and model of the optical drive?

How is the optical drive connected to your Studio?

If via a dock is the dock self powered?

Is the drive self powered?

Does the optical drive show up in the System Information app (hold down the Option key when accessing the  menu).
