If you iPad is not recognised when connected to your computer, try using a different USB port; if your computer has both USB-C and USB Type-A ports, try using the USB Type-A port of the computer.

If difficulties persist, this support page may help with troubleshooting:

If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Also note that when using iTunes for Windows with current models of iPad, such as the iPad Air5, you must use the most recent version of iTunes for Windows - which itself requires a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC:

Download and use iTunes for Windows – Apple Support

Update to the latest version of iTunes – Apple Support

Once it is connected, open iTunes, you’ll see the iPad listed at the top and you’ll be able to click on it to view the iPad and the options available. Make sure that everything on your computer is updated as well through the settings on the computer. When I connected mine and the computer wasn’t fully updated, the computer had to do the updates before it would download the drivers for the iPad so it wouldn’t fully connect everything until getting the updates. Although when this happened, the iPad didn’t ask if I wanted to trust this device, it asked if I wanted to allow the device to view the pictures. Once the drivers were all installed, then I got the trust this device notification so if you’re seeing that, you’ve probably got everything installed correctly, just need to open iTunes and access the iPad from there.
