Factory resetting a 2015 MacBook Pro.

I am the owner of a early 2015 MacBook Pro, 128gb SSD model. I recently bough a new laptop and I therefore wanted to factory reset the MacBook, so it could be resold or given away to family members.

I tried following the guide here: What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support, but I might have deleted/erased the wrong component in Disk Utility.

If I start the MacBook in Disk Utility (cmd+R), I see the folowing properties:

Internal:

APPLE SSD SM0128G Media

Disk Images:

Apple disk image Media

-> OS X Base System

What is the next step for me, to get the MacBook ready for resale? If I click "Reinstall OS X" from the main menu, no disk is found. Hope for some answers.

Best regards, Rasmus.

Command + R will bring you to the recovery panel where you choose to reinstall the OS. You missed the window of opportunity most likely

You have to be quick. Immediately after pressing the start button, press and hold Command + R until you see the screen change. Then release the keys.

You may need to do this multiple times until you get he timing right. Like I said, you gotta be quick.

Your 2015 can use the latest Monterey OS, but not Ventura or later.
