replace left airpod wont recognize

I am trying to replace a battery depleted left airpod (airpods 2) with a good one. but all i get is the flashing amber light, can't get it to recognize as a bluetooth device.

Thnat article helped. I also had to get the replacement airpod to update the hardware version so it was the same, once I did that it had no problem syncing.
