What backup cable would I use for an early 2013 MacBook pro to a Seagate portable 2TB external HD?

the Early 2013 MacBook Pro has 2 USB-A, and 2 Thunderbolt 1 ports. However, you will most likely want to use one of the USB-A ports for this connection.

You didn't provide the exact model of your Seagate portable drive, so we would need to know what port type it uses. As such, you may need either a USB-A to USB-A, or USB-A to USB-C cable.
