Changing my Apple I.D.

so the phone that I have is my mom’s old phone. She gave it to me and I set up an Apple ID. I was having an issue because every time I tried to sign into something my phone would suggest my name, but it would show my mom’s contact. Whenever somebody tries to airdrop me some thing it shows my mom’s contact. And in settings when I change my profile picture, it changes my moms as well. I have seen community posts and expert replies, saying that I need to remove her number from my Apple ID, but my Apple ID doesn’t show her number or her contact. So there’s nothing for me to change it says my number and my iCloud email but it still always pops up as my mom also in the Find My app, when I search for my mom it shows my device, but under her name and when I search for my mom’s phone, it just shows that it doesn’t exist. This is really frustrating and at this point I would be fine with talking to customer support over the phone but this is something that’s really bothering me so I hope that somebody can give me advice. Thank you.

Hello myphonethinksimmymomhelpplease,

Based on what you've told us, it sounds like you and your mother are sharing the same Apple ID. The first thing we recommend doing is ensuring you both actually have two separate Apple IDs. You can do that by signing in here: Manage Apple ID If you need to create a new Apple ID you can do that by following the steps here: How to create a new Apple ID - Apple Support

Then set up Family Sharing and turn on Purchase Sharing. That way you still have access to purchased content and apps. Set up Family Sharing - Apple Support

Once you have your own Apple ID and you've joined the family sharing group, you'll need to follow the steps to remove your mother's information from the iPhone: What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Then you can set up the iPhone as new using your own Apple ID and without worrying about you're mother's Apple ID. Set up your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Thanks.
