Problem with Face ID on my iPhone

My father's iPhone 12 Pro developed a problem with Face ID and we took it to an Apple Store while it was still in the one year warranty.

The Apple Store found that the entire camera module had failed (my father hadn't noticed, but attempting to use the cameras led to the display showing nothing but visual distortion). They concluded that the faulty handset could not be fixed in store, so they gave him a replacement iPhone 12 Pro.

Because it was still in warranty, there was no charge to us. But we saw the invoice we would have had to pay, and it was several hundred pounds. So be prepared for a hefty bill if you think your iPhone has a hardware fault.

This is generally a hardware issue. If the unit's on an OS version older than 16.6, you might be able to fix it by updating it from a computer or the Software Update function in Settings; otherwise, contact Apple Support.
