Audio in via usb records to Quicktime capture but not to Audacity or GarageBand

Trying to convert vinyl records. Using a Soundcraft Notepad 12fx USB mixer between my Sony amp and MacPro running Big Sur. MP Audio settings to Input of 12fx shows audio IN waveforms. Quicktime is able to record. But trying to go into Audacity or garageBand and no signal in. The input of 12 fx is also selected as input in both apps but no signal. In Audacity recording settings are set to Play through of input (tried both settings) Audio Interface settings are set to Host>core audio (only choice) and Recording >Notepad 12 fx
