What do you mean by "Apple Balance"?

Do you mean your Apple ID gift card balance? Or are you referring to your Apple Cash balance?

Any balance in your Apple ID, should be automatically used to pay for anything you buy, including any recurring subscriptions. however, you still require a verified payment method on your account and may require you to verify it before it uses the Apple ID balance.
