I would like to chime in as I don't know any other way to describe my issue also, as calendar alerts are messed up across devices. Veteran iOS and MacOS user so I don't need to restart my phone, MacBook, and all that. The issue is with the default alerts, and how Apple has not implemented defaults correctly. A default should simply be a pre-populated item, which is then saved with the object being saved, like an event.

Here's my issue (one example). I create an event (not all-day) on my MacBook in Calendar, and I save it with a 1 day before alert, and a 2 day before alert.

I then check my phone, I see the event. I open the event, and because my phone has a default alert of 15 minutes before, that event does not show the 1 and 2 day before. It shows a 15 minute before, and a 1 day before. I then change the default alert to None, and now my phone shows the 2 alerts the same as on the MacBook.

It also works in both directions; phone-mac, mac-phone. The default Calendar alerts are overriding, or adding to the event. It's totally messed up.

So two issues. Mac Calendar is junk and defaults in this case are not implemented correctly.

Think of it this way. Suppose you created a new 1 hour event, and it populated with a default start time of 9:00AM, and you said great, just what I want, no need to change it! And you save it.

Now you go to another one of your devices where your default start time for events is 11:00AM. You open your new event, and lo and behold, it now starts at 11:00 because of your default setting! That would be insane, no? This is what I'm saying.

A default is nothing more than something to make your data entry easier, or, filling in a field that cannot be left blank. You either accept it or change it. But once you save it, it should be saved and no other default should change it.

Grrr.
