DVD player to MacBook Pro

I'm running a 2021 MacBook Pro using macOS Ventura 13.5. I need to play a DVD on the Mac. I have tried two different players and cannot get the Mac to recognize either one. I have disconnected/reconnected the players, I have switched ports on the Mac, I have restarted all hardware. I am not using a hub, but am connecting directly from the player to the mac. I am connected to power. Any suggestions?

Thanks to all of you for your help. I discovered the problem. This device comes with what looks like a power cord attached to it, plus an additional USB-C to Micro USB Cable. The instructions say to directly connect to the computer (using the cable), and the device will pull its power from the Mac. Because of that, I assumed the attached power cord was only there if the device needed to be powered some other way (like plugging it into the wall). Turns out, the USB-C to Micro USB Cable isn't needed at all; in fact, I don't know why it's included. The device has to be directly connected to the computer using its attached power cord, not the separate cord. As soon as I did that, it came right up. Thanks again for taking time to help me.

I am using the ROOFULL External CD DVD +/-RW Drive, and connecting it with a USB-C to Micro USB Cable. I also tried the Verbatim External Slimline CD/DVD player, but gave up on that. When I wrote that I "cannot get the Mac to recognize either one," I meant that no icon shows up on the Mac allowing me to access the drive. Even though I can hear the drive working and all connections have been checked (so I know the device is being powered by the Mac), the Mac doesn't recognize the device.
