Command F button

I’m having difficulties with with my command+F button. I’m in medical school and I use Google Docs to make my study guides. A few months ago my command + F stopped working when I’m searching for specific words in the Google doc. It now seems like it’s searches the website instead of the Google doc (see photos for details). However, when I do command+shift+H I cant replace the words & it fully searched the google doc.

On the video I submitted, I am searching the word “emergency” and as you can tell, only the title is found but there is clearly multiple “emergency” words on the doc. When I do “commend+shift+H” and search “Emergency” multiple words come up.

Help this is sooooo annnoying because command+F use to work. When I open the doc on my Mac, the command + F works.

Hi. Safari’s keyboard shortcuts override any corresponding Google shortcuts. The issue has become more of a concern as both Google and Safari add new shortcuts. Google clearly wants people to have the same experience no matter the browser or OS. Apple also wants people to have the same experience across Mac apps. So we are at an impasse of both want to use the same shortcut for different purposes. Sadat will always win.

There is, fortunately, a solution. You can remap the Safari ⌘F shortcut to a different key combination as follows:

In System Preferences, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts, select App Shortcuts on the sidebar and add the following shortcut:

Application - Choose Safari
Menu Title - Enter the exact name of the Safari menu item using the shortcut
Keyboard Shortcut - create a new shortcut by pressing a key combination you don’t normally use, e.g. Shift-⌘F or whatever you want.

This will allow Google Docs and other editor apps to resume using ⌘F to search on the page. Let me know if this doesn’t work. You have to look up the menu command name in Safari to make sure it’s word for word correct.

We would recommend reaching out to their support here: Google Doc Editors Help. This may be intended behavior they now have, but further contacting their support could help.
