Is It Me, or Is the iPhone's Autocorrect Getting Worse?

Got an iPhone 11 that I hate. 7+ was the peak. Everything since then has been a downgrade. The icing on the cake is the autocorrection feature, which seems to be growing more and more stupid as time goes on.

To whit, typing in sentences to the phone is already a PITA, but typing something like, "I'm going to pay it off" generates "I'm going to off off" because O was hit instead of I (which is a separate screen-related issue I don't care about because I hate this phone). So Apple algorithms focus on autocorrecting to words that have more letters and doesn't even bother with grammar.

WITHOUT GRAMMATICAL CORRECTION, AUTOCORRECT IS USELESS.

Period.

There are much more egregious examples I can give (such as aboit becoming Adverse instead of "about"). Yeah, I get that we can customize the dictionaries. However, it's an uphill battle since the algorithms keep getting dumber and dumber. SIRI has been rendered absolutely worthless as a result of Apple's "improvements," and has lost any amusement value as she now operates as a brain-dead waste of CPU resources.

If you're not going to improve the grammar rules algorithms, what is the point of even offering autocorrect? No one is trying to correct not only their own typing, but the absolute crap-tier "corrections" of the algorithms for autocorrect as well. That's twice as much headache and makes using the phone an absolute nightmare for anything where Apple's autocorrect algorithms are allowed to operate.

How about instead of trying to wow us with 5G crap that no one wants (despite all your marketing efforts to convince us otherwise) you start working on improving user experience? As it stands right now, I do not recommend Apple to anyone anymore because of how bad my experiences have been, and Android sucks just as hard.

all auto correct sucks I only use it for punctuation or how to spell a hard word so you can turn it off like I did.

Settings>keyboard> then find the auto correct button and turn it off

bruh as I’m typing this it changed auto to sloth

i hope this helps your Apple experience because Apple is a great phone aside from some stuff like that

YES!

it’s gotten to the point where I can’t toe anything without looking like a dumb ***.

see what I mean? Let me try that again.

It’s gotten to the point that I can’t type anything without looking like a dumb ***. Finally. 😂

The O and I thing drives me nuts. Also. The number of times it puts an “n” instead of a space is ridiculous.

If AI could be advantageous anywhere, it’s here.

And yes - Siri absolutely sucks.

I may finally be arriving at my first thought of moving to a new system that does a better job with this stuff. It really does make me look stupid often. And I’m not. Typically. I’m stupid 2% of the time. Autocorrect takes it up to a solid 15%. 😂

Why is autocorrect going back and changing my words inside sentences I have completed that I don’t want changed inside comments but when I’m typing something like this, it cannot mitigate my speed typing misspelling unless i manually click the correction, in live time. Please fix that bug.

Apple does not read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your concerns here:

I just was able to type an entire sentence where it didn’t correct a single word even if it was just a letter off- it just left them and decided it was correct, yet other times it corrects words that were already correct to something that doesn’t make any grammatical sense nor does it make any sense to change the word. I typed “if” the other day and it changed it to “it”…

Also, the fact that it tries to autocomplete words and then you can’t backspace because it’s trying to fill in the word is so annoying and half the time it isn’t the word I was going to type. And the red line under words makes me think they’re incorrect- it’s so misleading. I understand algorithms are helpful and machine learning can improve autocorrect, but it’s just making it immensely harder to type. Especially since, like OP said, it doesn’t learn grammar rules.

When you told me to go back to Android. As a person with a brain, I would infer that you don’t want to hear criticism of the phone and would rather have people swap entire device and operating systems rather than you having to read some negative comments about it on a message board.

you’re allowed to have an opinion, but you didn’t state any opinion, you just wrote a short but pointless solution to the problem of autocorrect being bad. Maybe go learn what an opinion is before being offended about being allowed one.

”go back to android” is the most unhelpful, entitled and annoying response you could have had to this post. Also very rude. Got some growing up to do bud.

You inferred incorrectly. I made a plain statement that had no ulterior meanings. I've found that participating in these forums (and for life in general)everything is much more pleasant if you assume people's intentions are good.

You ignored the qualifier. I said, "Perhaps".

I'm sorry that you're upset and that that is making you lash out at people for no good reason. I hope that you find some way to deal with your stress.
