Motion App filters not functioning.
When I try to apply a filter to a project or group, it doesn't go in. Doesn't show up in the layers or timeline windows. Also, the space bar isn't working. To start the project I have to click the arrow.

Also my Mac is from 2015 & I don't have an onscreen keyboard. Space bar doesn't work in the Pro Apps only (including Photoshop). As I mentioned earlier it works fine for Mail, Text Edit, and obviously this page.
All mac users have the onscreen keyboard that I am talking about.
Go to System Settings->Keyboard, then under Input Sources click Edit... and activate "Show input menu in menu bar".
Now you always have that Keyboard Viewer available:
My guess is that if you click the space bar in that Keyboard Viewer, when FCP or Motion are active, then it also would not work, thus confirming it is a software issue rather than an issue with the physical keyboard.

You mean that if the timeline is active, space does not do play/pause?
This is weird. I know that you have already deleted the preferences in Motion but maybe it’s worth trying that again and the same for FCP.
Also: if you open the Keyboard Viewer and click the space bar on the onscreen keyboard, does it also not work?
First, I tried deleting preferences with FCP. As a result I lost all of my libraries. How do I recover them? I gather that you didn't expect this to happen. Do you know how I can recover my FCP libraries?

Nothing was lost. FCP just opens a library called Untitled by default.
Just locate the library or libraries you were working on and open it (them).
You can double click them in the Finder or open from inside FCP File->Open->Library…
Start by deleting Motion preferences. Hold down Command and Option while starting Motion and click Delete Preferences. This often clears unexpected behavior.
Hi
Check that you have visibility turned on. In the layers panel and in the timeline you will find a set of icons, these control the visibility for masks, behaviors and filters.
That worked! BUT the space bar doesn't work in Motion and Final Cut. Space bar works in other Apps such as text Edit.
Yes. That plus if I use Text of any kind I cannot separate words.
I just tried that, holding down option/command delete preferences with FCP and lost all of my libraries. ? what do I do now?
Thanks, but everything was turned on.
Finally! I Had to go to Accessibility > Keyboard > uncheck "full keyboard access". That worked!
I am glad that you found the solution and thank you for sharing it!
