I can't get my sync in my drop down menu to be active so that I can sync with my iphone. Help?

My itunes is not cooperating my iphone. i cannot get it to recognize it as a device that can be synced to and therefore all of my "choices" are inactive.

Try this page - If your computer doesn’t recognise your iPhone or iPad – Apple Support (UK) rather than the one you were on.
