Input Output Error using SMB Service

Hello. I am having a similar issue to that posted in thread 254409420, except that I am 1. using a Windows SMB Service and 2. Experiencing the same with my iPad. and 3. Using iOS 16.6. The following are some details about these two devices:

iPhone 13 pro max:

iOS 16.6

wi-fi assist off

iPad pro 12.9 M2 cellular

iPad OS 16.6

wi-fi assist off

Both these devices have static ip, and the physical drive that I am connecting to never spins down.

I am experiencing this problem with the "Files" that came with my devices. Yes, I understand that reconnecting the network drive makes it accessible, but I have a need for the connection to be maintained whenever I connect to the network (no reconnection).

After some testing , I've concluded that Low Power Mode does not seem to be messing with the connection. I'd like to know what mechanism(s) is causing these interruptions.

Please let me know if you need other details. I appreciate your help!

iPad Pro, iPadOS 16

Maintaining a stable network drive connection on iOS and iPadOS can sometimes be a challenge, and there are a few factors to consider in your situation. Here are some potential reasons for the interruptions in your network drive connections:

  1. The stability of network connections can be affected by the quality of your Wi-Fi signal. If your devices are too far from the Wi-Fi router or if there are obstacles or interference in the signal path, it could result in intermittent connectivity issues.
  2. Ensure that the settings for your network drive are configured correctly. Some network drives have power-saving features that may cause them to go into sleep mode or disconnect after a period of inactivity. Check the settings of your network drive to see if there's an option to disable power-saving features.
  3. Your router settings can also affect network stability. Make sure your router is set up to assign static IP addresses to your iPhone and iPad. Additionally, check if there are any firewall or port forwarding settings that may interfere with the network drive connections.
  4. Ensure that the firmware or software of your network drive is up to date. Manufacturers often release updates to improve compatibility and stability.
  5. If you're using a VPN or have a firewall on your network, they may be causing interruptions in the network drive connection. Check the settings of your VPN and firewall to see if they are blocking the connection.
  6. Double-check that your static IP addresses are correctly configured on your iPhone and iPad and that there are no IP conflicts on your network.
  7. Sometimes, third-party apps or security software can interfere with network connections. Try disabling any VPN or security apps temporarily to see if they are causing the issue.
  8. Ensure that your devices are running the latest version of iOS 16.6.1 and iPadOS 16.6.1. Updates often include bug fixes and improvements that can resolve connectivity issues.

If you've gone through these steps and the issue persists, you may want to consider reaching out to Apple Support for further assistance. They may be able to provide specific troubleshooting steps or insights into the issue you're experiencing.
