Closing Activity Rings with Activity recorded using iPhone

When I wear my Apple Watch, all of my activity transfers nicely to my iPhone Health app. However, if I'm charging my watch and not wearing it the steps activity doesn't close my activity rings... Is there a way to sync the devices so that after walking 5 miles with my phone on me, that when I put on my watch the rings populate and don't say that I had zero activity?

iPhone 12, iOS 16

No, I don't believe there is any way to make that work. If you had never paired a watch to the phone, it would work but not if there's a watch paired to it.

As it doesn't take very long to charge an Apple Watch, I just try to keep it charged. I put it on to charge when I get up in the morning while I'm getting ready and then again, if necessary, for a while before bed.
