Why is my iPhone taking hours to erase

I recently had to replace my screen it gave out so the time my screen was out I must have pressed all the passcode keys and so my iPhone locked out leaving me with no choice but to erase and restore my iPhone …. But it’s taking hours and hours to erase is there anything I can do than wait for hours maybe days

MacBook Pro 13″, OS X 10.11
