How to remove disk images, after a restore from TimeMachine?

I set back my older OS (Mojave) using Time Machine. But now, two disk images appear on my desktop:

'Update' and 'MacOS HD - Data'.

When I remove them from my desktop, they keep appearing after each startup.

Is there a way to permanently remove them?

Later versions of macOS utilize multiple APFS volumes for a macOS installation....these are remnants from the later versions of macOS 10.15+. To downgrade macOS you need to perform a clean install of macOS which involves first erasing the whole physical drive (Intel Macs only) followed by reinstalling macOS & restoring from backup.

Assuming you are using an older version of macOS, then theoretically you should be able to unmount those two volumes, then use Disk Utility to delete them.
