Safari kicks my cursor out of the area I am typing in

This only happens in Safari, no other browser. When I am typing either in Google doc, or even when I am typing into the url address field of Safari itself, Safari just kicks my cursor out after a few characters (out of wherever I am typing in at the moment) and because I am still typing it registers my keystrokes as all kind of other commands instead of just typing (starts opening new tabs, or opening windows etc). I think this is a major bug and makes Safari absolutely unworkable. I mean, this does not feel like a setting, as it starts typing just fine, but after a few characters it pops out.

Anybody experiencing this?

I do not have a virus or malware (I am protected and scan regularly) and I do not have any bluetooth devices connected other than AirPods.

Hey callunairis,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. In addition to the steps you've already completed with checking for malware and Bluetooth devices causing an issue, these steps can help:

  1. Ensure your Mac is fully updated.
  2. Check for Safari extensions that can interfere.
  3. Test while using a private window.

Those steps can be found here: If Safari doesn't open a page or work as expected on your Mac - Apple Support

If that doesn't help, let us know more:

  • Since menu options can vary, which software version shows in Settings > General > About?
  • Does this behavior happen on all websites that accept text input?

Keep us posted.

Take care!
