My phone and another phone on the Apple ID will have each others messages loaded into our phones. We’ve tried disconnecting my iMessages from the Apple ID and signing into a different Apple ID and my phone continually signs in to the old Apple ID. There are no additional numbers in the send and receive list. Any help would be appreciated

You need to stop sharing an ID entirely.

After following that process, set up the device with the new ID.

in all things apple if you share appleID then you are the same person
if settings->messages and unchecking imessages does not resolve your issue then your options is
don't share appleID but use family sharing insted Family Sharing - Apple
or try to reach out to their support Get Support (apple.com)

So you have two iPhones using the same Apple ID correct? And they both show the same text messages, correct? Note: this is exactly how it is designed to work.
However, if you what to change how one phone or the other handle messages, do this:
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make changes.

If you don't want to share your message with another iPhone, DON'T share an Apple ID. Each user should have their own Apple ID.
