Whenever i plug in my iPhone i get the above message. I've been plugging this particular iPhone into my iMac for over a year and it is just now giving me this message.

Are you plugging the iPhone directly into the Mac? Or into a port on a hub or dock?
If you are plugging the iPhone into a downstream port on a hub, and that hub doesn't have its own power supply, maybe all of the USB devices connected to the hub, put together, want too much power, and that's why you are getting the message.
It should work, then. But you could try moving it to a different port, or rebooting the iMac.
I am plugging it directly into the iMac. It is the only device plugged into the iMac. The keyboard and the mouse are wireless.
