Streaming Podcasts on Apple Watch SE using cellular data from nearby iPhone

Hi all. I like to listen to podcasts on the watch Podcast app. When I select episodes that have not been downloaded I am shown a "Mobile Data is turned off" message as shown in the picture below. If I click the settings button I am sent to the settings app, but not to any setting in specific. Browsing around does not show any relevant settings. Mobile data is turned on on the iPhone and both devices are connected via bluetooth.

It feels like the Podcast app has a bug and believes my apple watch has a (disabled) cellular connection, which it does not (first gen Watch SE). That's why I am shown the settings button that then doesn't work.

Hello mário147,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Let's go ahead and restart your Apple Watch. Even though this is a simple step it can help with these situations:

"Restart the paired iPhone

  • Turn off your iPhone: For models with Face ID, press and hold the side button and a volume button, then drag the slider to the right. For models without Face ID, press and hold the side or top button until the slider appears, then drag the slider to the right. With any model, you can also go to Settings > General > Shut Down.
  • Turn on your iPhone: Hold down the side or top button until the Apple logo appears."

Additional details can be found here: Restart Apple Watch

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Which watchOS version do you currently have installed? Also, do you see this alert when accessing other features of your Apple Watch?

Cheers!

mário147,

Your Apple Watch is running the latest update. As the Podcast and Watch app updates with the iOS, be sure your iPhone is running iOS 16.6.1. If it is not, to update your iPhone follow Update your iPhone or iPad.

If both devices are up to date you can try to unpair and pair the watch by following Unpair and erase your Apple Watch.
