Wrong time for Venezuela in Calendar

There is a problem that has not been solved by Apple. About 6 years ago, the time for Venezuela changed to -4GMT. For about 8 years it was -4.30 GMT- The fact is that the world time associated to Venezuela, still 4-

.30 GMT, therefore when I put in my agenda Venezuelan time, it reflects a half hour more. It is needed for me to change the hour to Atlantic Hour, to have an accurate time for my appointments. Although, when I get an automatic appointment included in my agenda, the time is always wrong by a half hour.

IS THERE A WAY APPLE CAN FIX THIS PROBLEM?

I have find out the following: The time zone for apple Mac is OK.

Although, in the CALENDAR, when I use this time zone, it reflects an older time zone that has not been in effect for several years now.

The "solution" I found was to CHANGE the time zone in CALENDAR ONLY, for the time zone of one of Dominican Republic, which is the same than Venezuela, and this solved my problem, and the agenda does not change the time of half hour for my appointments. This in spite of the fact that I keep, for general purposes, the Venezuelan time in my apple settings.

But I guess this is a problem that should be solved by Apple.

Yes, of course, the version of Ventura I use is 13.5.2. Sorry for the mistake.

Which Calendar app are you using here? That provided with macOS, or an add-on?

If you are using the macOS Calendar app and nit some third-party app, select a different timezone else-planet, turn off Timezone support in the Calendar settings, restart the Mac into Safe Mode to clear caches, reboot the Mac again normally, re-enable Timezones in Calendar, re-select the desired Timezone, and see if that now works better.

It would be unexpected—though certainly not impossible—that the Calendar app includes its own copy of the Olsen timezone database. I’m here wondering if there’s a caching-related error lurking here somewhere.

If this cache refresh sequence doesn’t clear this, send some feedback to Apple, and link to this thread. I’d probably send the feedback anyway, with a link to this thread.

Which calendar app are you using?

What you are describing can arise with Microsoft Outlook and Exchange, depending on the user and server settings, particularly when sending calendar invites around. Check for Exchange Server and Office updates and settings, there.

I’ll assume you meant macOS 13.5.2 here, as 12.5.2 both doesn’t exist and isn’t Ventura.

Could not duplicate w/ iPhone calendar app in iOS 16.6.

To test, added a 1200 “Caracas Time” appointment for tomorrow.

It correctly displayed at 1200 EDT

Then added a 1200 “Caracas Time” appointment for Christmas Day.

It correctly displayed at 1100 EST

(because VZ doesn’t observe DST)

Caracas is also correctly reflected as UTC-4 in both Calendar and Clock apps.

Thoughts?

It might appear that a 30m offset exists somewhere in your local client settings

Thank you so much. I implemented quite a similar situation: I changed the time zone for the calendar to Dominican Republic, and unchecked the box "automatic zone". It is working so far. But I will write to Apple, via the link you've give me.

Also noted from your signature is that you’re running Windows 6 … ??? 🤔

If you really mean Windows Vista, it’s mainstream support ended over 11 Years ago …

If this is so, it might well explain the “legacy” time zone offsets you’re observing.

No, I am not running Windows Vista. But Ventura 12.5.2 in Mac. That was a very old computer that I do not have anymore. I do not know why it appears as my computer.

I tried again, and STILL have the same problem with the CALENDAR. For example: if i post a new event at 10.30 am, and put Caracas Time, it changes to 11.00.

You are right, with the time, it seems to be OK. The problem seems to be limited to the calendar.

Thanks for the reply and for clearing-up the “Vista” question.

Although I WAS quite impressed that you still had a Vista box running. 😉

I unfortunately don’t have access to my Mac at present … but I do seem to recall several settings for time zones and offsets in there ???

It is working for the time being. I included a zoom appointment in my calendar (the kind of appointment which time was changed as of half hour), and it was OK. I hope this solution might be a long term one.

That should be a viable work-around as DomRep also stays on UTC-4 year-round.
