'This computers hostname' error message

Hello,

I have just opened my laptop after not using it for a couple of days to this message:

"This computers local host name..... is already in use by this network it has been changed to..."

Is someone else trying to hack my laptop? This has never happened before.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

The automatic set up process seem to go smoothly, but now I am starting to get these messages: This computer's local hostname "Timothys-Mac-mini-3.local" is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to "Timothys-Mac-mini-4.local". I accepted the message thinking it was a one-time thing, but today, when waking the Mac up from sleep, I got the message again. Is this normal, is it going to be a regular occurrence, and is there a simple way to stop this message from popping up repeatedly?

MacBook Local Hostname I have an Apple M1 MacBook Pro running Ventura. A few days ago I did a factory reset of my Macbook and reinstalled macOS due to an issue with my computer lagging. Yesterday I logged into Eduroam WiFi, and today when I opened up my laptop from sleep mode (I was on the same Eduroam network), I received a random popup that said the following: This computer's local hostname "----Macbook-pro.local" is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to "------Macbook-Pro-2.local" To change the local hostname, open system preferences and click sharing, then click "edit" and type the name in the local hostname field. Please advise if the factory reset caused this issue since I am using the same network that I used before the reset. Interestingly, this popup did not appear when I used my home wifi. I also read somewhere that there could be some unauthorized access into my computer, but I spoke with an Apple advisor who dismissed that issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I cannot update to Sonoma and am missing lots of security updates. I constantly use my Laptop on public wifi as I do not have internet at home right now. Can someone explain to me the following: all of these applications are pinging home to apple, disconnecting them suffers no Loss except a faster internet connection and faster CPU load time. I am using my computer for monitoring and want to list that it looks like these applications are not required. How did they come about my computer? What is the exact purpose, and if blocked I do not see a difference. Seems like I somehow might have picked up malware from an update during Recovery Internet updating when my laptop was backflashed to a previous version of OS X that I didnt even recognize. Programs are the following: akd trustd studentd syspolicyd Is this a macintosh spear fish attempt? This has been sitting on my BigSur and again seems to just use packets to phone home to the mother ship. I do not think this is needed since you are not pushing security updates to my laptop :) Next macbook should be a LEASE!
