The problems with watchOS 10 probably involves more than just 3rd party app(s).

When watchOS 10 first came out my watch updated automatically. I’m one of the unlucky few whose watch started using too much power. Using extra power after a major update is common for a couple days. After two weeks, my watch still had to be recharged several times per day (not acceptable). This was not an issue with watchOS 9.6 (there is no way to go back).

I have some draconian steps and a configuration that gets my watch through a day on one 90 minute charge, but NOT back to pre-watchOS10. My settings remove or disable much of what makes an Apple Watch special…but it’s better than a frequently dead watch.

As a side note, Apple Technical Support has been consulted twice: online and in-person at an Apple Store Genius Bar. Diagnostics pass, my watch has never been wet, and my S4 is not covered by a warranty.

Apple Tech Support is aware of the problems and tried to solve my issue but ultimately provided two options:

1) trade in my watch for a new S9 (net cost $400) or

2) replace the battery even though it has 84% capacity ($299 cost for battery capacity over 80%, $99 replacement battery capacity less than 80%).

Neither option seems all that great…yet.

Here are some tricks and tips that might increase an Apple Watch’s daily battery use with the current watchOS 10:

  • Adjust display settings. The display is one of the biggest battery drains, on S4 through S6. Reduce display impact by adjusting the brightness, reducing the amount of time the display stays on, and disabling the always-on display for S7 and newer.
  • Reduce the number of notifications. Every notification that appears on the screen  requires the watch to wake up and use battery power. Try disabling notifications for apps that you don't use often and/or try setting notifications to silent delivery.
  • Turn off haptics. Every time the watch has to send a haptic, a small vibrator has to use battery power.
  • Remove apps from the Smart Stack. While this is a new feature, on my S4 it seems to consume significant power.
  • Delete 3rd party apps. Some 3rd party apps are not behaving well with watchOS 10. Delete the 3rd party apps on the watch AND on the iPhone.
  • Disable location services, especially for the Apple weather app. Apparently the weather app frequently checks location and retrieves weather for the location, even if your location is not significantly changing. Remove all but one weather app location. Completely removing the weather app may help too.
  • Turn off background app refresh. Complications will still update in the active watch face. Other apps will refresh when you open them or a watch face with corresponding complication.
  • Turn off as many features as possible. Many Apple Watch features use battery power, even when not actively using them. For example, the heart rate sensor, GPS, and Wi-Fi can use battery power. Try turning off these features to save battery life.
  • Use Power Saving Mode. This mode disables certain features to extend battery life.

Here are some additional tips that may help improve battery life on watchOS 10:

  • Unpair and re-pair Apple Watch. This can sometimes resolve battery life issues.
  • Restore Apple Watch from a backup. This can also help to resolve battery life issues.
  • Reset Apple Watch and do not restore from a backup. This can also help to resolve battery life issues.

If these fail to help with the short battery life:

  • Contact Apple Support. If you're still having trouble with battery life, contact Apple Support for assistance. Do not expect good technical support from these Apple Community Forums, there are a few trolls who generally  make condescending and smug remarks.

If you are not happy with watchOS 10, share your concerns directly with Apple at Feedback - Watch - Apple

Hope this helps your situation!

What I notice is that there's really no way to see how long the battery will hold a charge. 1 word describes it - Unreliable. I wear it 24hr/day. Sometimes I can go into day 3 on a single charge and other times 18 hours and it need a charge. Lately I've been able to get close to 2 days.

At nite now a use theater mode and do not disturb. Battery lasts longer only using 6% power over nite.

Do you think that they don’t review this site? This is where they get their feedback to make changes etc.

You appear to have been led astray.

I happen to know that Apple's engineers do not use this site due to its overwhelming amount of "noise" — a technical term of art defined as "no useful information found."

Use Feedback - Watch - Apple. as Dah•veed wrote. I also happen to know that Apple does use it for your stated needs.

Better yet, contact Apple using the Support link below. Something is definitely amiss with your Watch.

My U2 has been brilliant since loathe last year. I turn mine off every night as I do it wear it to bed.

Since last update 10.4 I’ve seen a real change in battery life. I fully charge the watch on Sunday night, prior to he latest update i would get comfortably nearly 5 days before needing to charge again.

Since 10.4 been horrific. Lost over 50% in 9 hrs. I have done 1 indoor run for 40mins. Really poor for a sports active watch. Thats NOT what i paid £800 for.

Last week - it was absolutely fine and I completed 5 runs in 5 days.

What are you going to do about it APPLE!!

My U2 watch lasted me 4 days without needing a charge. On the final day I would have 30% and never felt it wasn't enough.

Since updating my U2 to 10.4, the battery life went from 4 days to needing a charge after 1 day of use.

Within 12 hours my watch would go from 100% - 30% without any type of real use.

The 10.4 update has turned my U2 into a heavy wrist band rather than a functional device.

I paid nearly $1k for a watch that doesn't work as advertised, or perform as when I purchased the watch.

Apple should be offering their customers compensation for killing their devices with their 10.4 update.

Came here looking for similar tips. Apple’s lack of addressing the watch battery issue is frustrating. I miss the days of wearing my watch for a week before charging. I’ve tried deleting everything extra but it’s no use. Apple watch’s poor battery charge time is making it a lot easier for me to breakup with my Apple watch and not worry about purchasing the next model as this one goes to the new technology graveyard. I’ve become a caretaker to my watch instead of having it take care of my needs.

same thing is happening to me around the same time😭 this week i noticed that my apple watch that i charge to 30 percent didn’t last me more than the usual. i use it when i go to work and the 30 percent would last me from 9-5 but now it only lasts like 5 hours. also i charger my watch to 100 percent the night before and when i woke up and put it on it was at 80 which is normally at 98 when i put it on in the morning 🫤

My watch started doing the same thing 2 days ago. Last night it was fully charged after hours of charging. I put it on and in less that 3 hours it was down to 60%. What's going on? I really hate wasting my time trying to figure out what the problem is and getting answers from Apple, like turn off the features like heart rate, etc. - one of the reasons for buying this watch. My watch is less than 2 years old and this is already starting to happen.
