Array Formula

I’m new to numbers. I have an expense sheet in Google sheets that uses an array formula. For example I purchase from vendors Amazon eBay Walmart etc. And I have a summary tab where I summarize how much I have spent on each vendor. I also have several categories materials postage office supplies etc. I have another section where I summarize expenses by category. How can I do that in numbers. tIA

The SUMIF function can be of use here.

For an example, make a new Numbers file using the Personal Budget template.

You'll find a SUMIF formula in the Summarize by Category page of the template.

Detailed descriptions and examples of each of the functions available in Numbers are also available in the Function Browser. The browser opens each time you start entering an formula, and provides a description of each function, the syntax of formulas contain the function, and at least one example of its use in a formula. The Function Browser is a major asset of the Mac version of Numbers.

I'm less familiar with the iPad, iPhone and iCloud versions, but assume that similar support entities are available there as well.

Can you share a screenshot of the kinds of array formulas you are using?

shift-command-4, drag to select area, release, start new post here and use the mountains-and-moon 'Image Insertion' icon to attach the screenshot image from the Desktop.

There almost always ways to accomplish the same thing in Numbers.

Also keep in mind that Numbers has Pivot Tables. These make it easy to do what you describe without entering and debugging formulas.

Be sure to check out the Help menu. Help > Numbers Help has a User Guide and Formulas and Functions Help has entries on each function with examples showing how to use them. The templates at File > New are also good examples of how to do things in Numbers.
