Wifi Connecting and Disconnecting

Hello,

For the past couple of hours, I have been having issues connecting to my MacBook Pro (2020). My MacBook will toggle between connecting and disconnecting from my wifi. All of my other family’s devices connects except for my Macbook. It is up to date and I have restarted it numerous times. I have also created a Wireless Diagnostics Report, but it has never finished creating. At the same time, a window would pop up asking to put the Google Chrome tab into the Applications folder. At some points, it will connect for a few minutes before it toggles back and forth again. This is the first time that I have had issues with this. Is there any recommendations?

Troubleshooting Mac Wi-Fi:

A few thoughts to try...

I. Clear the Temporary Internet Files:

II. Restart your Router:

  1. Power: off the router
  2. Wait: 30 seconds
  3. Power: It back on

III. Boot in Safe Mode:

In Safe ModeLogin Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and then boot up normally, attempting another update install. For instructions, go here: How to Use safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support

IV. Try a New Admin User:

What happens when you create a new administrator user, and log into it? Do you still get this error? If not, then it is likely an error with the current user. If so, then it is likely an error with your Mac.

V. Reset your SMC and your NVRAM:

(Applies to Intel-Basel Macs Only) Sometimes changes (i.e. Installations) are made to the system and then settings (i.e. Networking) become corrupted, technically. So, reset both on your Mac. So, reset the SMC and reset the NVRAM or PRAM. It might take three tries. to fix this. So, be certain you have the time to do so.

Hi!

I have tried the following suggestions, but unfortunately, the same issue is occurring. I have tried going into a Guest User to connect, but I have had no luck. I have contacted Apple Support twice, but it is as an issue that they couldn’t figure out over the phone. I do have an appointment tomorrow morning, but I’m starting to get concerned if I have somehow gotten a virus on my MacBook? Could this be the case?

Virus on a Mac:

A. No. you will never get a virus on your Mac.

B. Create an Administrator User:

Rather than a guest user, try creating an Administrator user, to troubleshoot this. Then, trash the user you just created, being it would be of no use.

C. Disable a VPN:

Are you using a VPN? If so, disable it.
