It is possible. You will not be able to tell by any markings on the device. The only way to know for sure is if it was purchased from Apple or Authorized Apple seller. The counterfeit ones that you will find at other third party sites may look the same, but could suffer from any of these problems:

• Poor Audio Quality
• Noise Cancellation does not work
• Find My does not work
• Issues with pairing
• Unable to get AppleCare

The best way to know if they are fake or not is by where they were purchased. If purchased from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller, then they are real. If not, there is a good chance that they are fake. If you are seeing a different serial number when connected to your device, then it is possible that the case is not the original one for the AirPods or that the serial number is fake on either device. These are fake --the Serial Number should always be 12 characters --yours have 10 characters.
