I tried to share my contact with an international number by "message". Number prefixed by 011, followed by usual country and area codes etc. Message failed to send. I do not have a mail address, so it seems "message" is my only choice. Thanks.
Try sending with the “+” international mobile escape code.
e.g. + country code … city code …
For a London U.K. number it might be + 44 20 nnn nnn …
(“+” is dialed by briefly holding-down the zero on the dialing pad)

Thank you. I think it's all cleared up now. I had no problem with the numbers. I spoke with my provider and they changed my plan for about $1 a month to allow international text messaging. So I will try it later. I appreciate your taking the time to answer my query.

Do you have an International SMS plan enabled by your Carrier?
If the number to whom you are sharing has an iPhone then ask them to activate iMessage or send it to their iCloud through the Message app from your device. Instead of a number input their iCloud email ID in the message app.
Glad it helped! It occurred to me later that, when you try to share a contact, you were actually trying to send an MMS message, just as if you were sending a photo. It may be that your carrier doesn't support international MMS.
You could always just type the information into Messages.
