icloud storage on mac is full

It says my iCloud storage is full on my mac and also says I have 4000+ photos (which is what is taking up the most storage). Although, I do not have photos on my mac, so my iCloud storage should not be full. How do i fix this i.e how do I disengage the photos I have on my phone from my Macbook...

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.5

Your iCloud storage isn't "on your Mac." An iCloud storage plan is available to all of your devices that are using the same Apple ID for iCloud. So, if you fill up your iCloud storage from your phone, all of your devices will show that your iCloud is full even if you don't have anything from some devices synced with iCloud.

You may want to use the following to see what is using the storage. One easy to fix thing is if you have old iCloud Backups from old iPhones or iPads and no longer need them, they can be deleted. Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support
