Apple watch serial number comes up invalid. Trying to get trade in value.

Are you sure that the number that you are using is the serial number?
On the watch open Settings>General>About and you will find the serial number.
Or, in the Watch app on the paired iPhone go to My Watch>General>About and the serial number is there as well.
