Photos app loading slowly

Hey there,

my Photos App is loading really slowly for a while now (since iOS 16.6 release …?). It takes half a minute or more after opening the app before I can do any selection, scrolling or editing.

I run the Photos App on my IPhone 13 Pro with latest iOS now, iCloud Fotos and optimized storage turned on.

Restarting doesn’t resolve the issue. Also no Cellular/Wi-Fi problem.

Happens also whenever I tap a Photo on the Photos widget I like to get a closer look off…

anybody else has this?

Issue with the cloud sync?

Will iOS 17 or a new IPhone fix this? Right now it’s not possible to quickly show a photo to a friend - more than annoying.

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

If your photos are loading slowly it could be your internet connection since it will download the photos from iCloud.

You can turn off optimize iCloud Photos but it may use more storage on your device. These steps will guide you:

"Get started with iCloud Photos:

Tap Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos.
Tap Sync this iPhone. In iOS 15 or earlier, tap to turn on iCloud Photos.
Select Optimize iPhone Storage to save space on your device."

You can also try testing on another network to see if you notice a difference.

Hello DrKlöbner,

If you do not have enough available space to try storing the pictures directly on the device, then you'll want to contact Apple to report the issue with the iCloud Photo service.

Hey Ryane77,

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this bug is only affecting me, otheiphones, IPad and macbook in the same Wifi are not effected.

I am afraid that turning off storage optimization the IPhone will take ages to react properly because of long loading times (560G in Fotos on iCloud) and only I have 300 GB left on the phone: will it get packed or leave definable space for new apps or alike?

Hi,

called support, very friendly.

out of nowhere the library was working again - very nice indeed

(a little frustrating, as I feel a little dumb…, they said call back if it ever appears again…) they also suggested restoring the iPhone from an older image. I will wait what iOS 17 and the new iPhone 15 will bring…. 🤩
