dd: /dev/disk2: Permission denied

dd: /dev/disk2: Permission denied

I'm trying to use dd to move a file directly over to a CD with sudo dd if=/Volumes/Macintosh\ HD\ 2/Users/daniel/Programming/Cube/build/bin/bootstart of=/dev/disk2
(Using disk2 because I have 2 hard drives so disk1 is just another HD). Any suggestions?

Imac, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Why use dd instead of cp?
Also, you may try using a disk partition (/dev/disk1s2) instead of the whole disk. Did you try that?

I think you should try making an iso file & burn that.

Here is how I burn my Ubuntu distributions. The resulting cd boots on my mac.

hdiutil burn image.iso

I need dd because I need to copy a certain amount of bytes to a certain position. A partion wouldn't work, since I'm trying to make a bootable disk.

I think that you can also use Disk Utility to fully copy the CD to the hard drive and make it bootable.
I did that once with the Mac OS X DVD and it worked fine.

I'm pretty sure you can do that, however that won't work with me, I need to take a boot-sector, and insert it into a iso, burn it to the CD, and have the computer boot from that.
